TECHNICAL FAQS:

How does your 1073 module sound compared to a vintage one?

We have tested vintage Neve 1073, BAE 1073 and AMS 1073 against ours and, after endless comparisons, our verdict is all four sound identical. Minor differences are found, but not bigger than between different modules of the same brand. That´s also good to say about our competitors!

How does your 1073/500 module sound compared to your 1073?

Both sound identical, as all PCB cards and transformers are not only identical but interchangeable.

Will my Neve 80 series console need any modification in order to have your modules fitted in?

No, as long as your console is meant to hold 1073 pin compatible modules.

Well, we cannot say so, as they are different weapons. You could think of an 8173 as a 1073 with the mid bands of the 1081 (and of course a variable frequency hi shelf …).

Will my 3rd party 8 channel frame / 2 channel rack / etc need any modification in order to accommodate your modules?

In case your rack, frame, etc, had output controls, your modules need to have their  filter termination resistors removed. That´s a 2 minute job and every competent technician will be able to do it for you. In case you want your brand new modules shipped this way, just mention it when placing your order.

Will I be able to get all my all time 1073 sounds with your 6673 module?

Absolutely. Your 6673 will give you every single possible sound setting contained in a 1073, PLUS a new mid band  ( the 1066 band ) and a few more choices in the 1073 mid band and high shelf one.

Is the 6673 objectively better than the 1073?

As audacious as it may sound, yes it is.

Is the 8173 objectively better than the 1073?

Well, we cannot say so, as they are different weapons. You could think of an 8173 as a 1073 with the mid bands of the 1081 (and of course a variable frequency  hi shelf…).

What components do you use?

We do use Carnhill input and output transformers, and audio inductors as well.

The rotary switches we use are Elma Switzerland and Blore Edwards U.K.

Our PCBs are manufactured “the old fashioned way”, with no mask and twice the amount of copper as usual, with an expensive silver finish for superior conductivity. Gold plated connectors are used all the way.

90% of all our critical components are made in the U.K.

I´m in doubt whether I should get 8173s or 6673s. Any help?

That´s a difficult question to answer… Both modules share the same exact mic preamp and half the eq. The 6673´s mid bands are more “tuned by ear” while the 8173´s have their frequencies equally spaced to cover the whole mid audio spectrum, as in 1081s.

8173s eq will probably allow you to be more specific cutting or boosting at your desired center frequencies, while the 6673 choices will probably be more musical…

We love both!!

Is your 1073/500 included in the VPR alliance?

Yes, our 1073/500 is part of the VPR Alliance and will work flawlessly in your API Lunchbox.

Do you sell knobs?

Unfortunately  we don’t.
